It was fitting that Eminem's new video, Headlights, arrived on Mother's Day. Directed by Spike Lee, the track's music video, featuring Nate Ruess of fun., is an open letter to his mom, Debbie.
What's surprising is that Eminem, who has aimed some blistering lyrics at his mom through the years for a childhood full of abusive and absent parents, now extends an olive branch to her, both forgiving her and paying tribute to her. (Of course, there are still plenty of f-bombs, but you can see the video here.)
Some of the lyrics:
'Cause to this day we remain estranged and I hate it though
'Cause you ain't even get to witness your grand babies grow
But I'm sorry, Mama, for Cleaning Out My Closet, at the time I was angry
Rightfully maybe so, never meant that far to take it though,
'cause now I know it's not your fault, and I'm not making jokes
That song I no longer play at shows and I cringe every time it's on the radio
"Mom, please accept this as a tribute I wrote this on the jet
I guess I had to get this off my chest."
