Hey, you guysss!
There have long been rumors that a Goonies sequel was in the works, but could it finally be happening? The blogosphere is getting stirred up by new comments from director Richard Donner, who told TMZ the project is in motion.
"We're doing a sequel," says the director, sounding confident. Will any of the stars return? "Hopefully, all of them," says Donner, who last directed Bruce Willis in the 2006 cop drama 16 Blocks.
However, history has shown we should proceed cautiously. A look back at the Gooniesrumor mill:
2007: Sean Astin tells MTV a sequel is an "absolute certainty" but admits to some challenges. "Steven [Spielberg] and [Donner] and all the powers that be ... they really feel like the thing that made the movie strong was that it was about kids, so they really want to make the next movie about kids ... the next generation of Goonies," he said. "And they've had a hard time tackling that."
2008: Corey Feldman weighs in, squashing Goonies 2 talk. "NO!" he wrote in a blog post. "There is no Goonies 2! I'm sorry but it's just not gonna happen." (Last year hereleased a memoir, Coreography, which touched on some of his Gooniesexperiences.)
2011: Donner tells Collider.com the plan is to take Goonies to Broadway as an irreverent musical. "Goonies is moving at the beginning stages," he said, while admitting it was a "long process."
2014: With new comments from Donner, we've reached out to Warner Bros. for comment. In the meantime, there's always this classic clip. So, do you want a Goonies sequel?
