Shalane Flanagan wins Gate River Run in record time

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Shalane Flanagan set a new American record in the 15 K by winning the Gate River Run with a time of 47 minutes and 0 seconds.

Flanagan and the rest of the elite women got a head start on the rest of the field. She was able to finish before any men, therefore she wins an equalizer bonus of $5,000.

This is the first time that Flanagan has won the Gate River Run. She also holds the American record in the 10 K, and she won a bronze medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Winning the men's race for the second year in a row is Ben True with a time of 43:04.

More than 17,000 people competed in this morning's 15 K race.
