San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - American John Isner and German Tommy Haas were
second-round winners Wednesday at the SAP Open.
The second-seeded Isner outlasted Canadian Vasek Pospisil 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-3,
while the fourth-seeded Haas posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Canadian Jesse
Levine.
Haas, who reached the semifinals at this event in 2005, has yet to drop a set
in four lifetime meetings with Levine.
The opening round also concluded on Wednesday, with a pair of Americans
advancing.
Michael Russell topped qualifier Donald Young 6-3, 7-5 in an all-American
clash, while wild card Steve Johnson saved two match points in his 6-7 (2-7),
6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win over 2007 finalist Ivo Karlovic.
In other first-round action, Colombian Alejandro Falla dismissed Italian
Flavio Cipolla 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (12-10) and Aussie Matthew Ebden drove out South
African qualifier Rik De Voest 6-2, 7-5,
The 2013 San Jose titlist will collect $98,700.
