St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings have apparently made a
move to bolster their blue line on Wednesday, adding free agent defenseman
Carlo Colaiacovo.
According to a report from KFNS-AM, it is a 2-year deal worth $5 million where
the rearguard is set to earn $2.15 in the first year and $2.85 in the final
year of the pact.
The 29-year-old Toronto native was part of a defensive corps that helped the
Blues record a league-best 15 shutouts and allowed goaltenders Jaroslav Halak
and Brian Elliott take home the Jennings Trophy for fewest total goals
allowed.
He notched two goals and 19 points with a plus-seven rating in 64 games, then
added three assists in seven postseason appearances as St. Louis was
eliminated in the second round by the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.
Heading into his 10th pro season, Colaiacovo has totaled 30 goals and 139
points in 370 games with the Maple Leafs (2002-09) and Blues (2009-12).
