Jaguars News: Marrone discusses Joeckel, three starters miss practice with injuries

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone discusses Seattle Seahawks' defense

Former Jaguars first-round pick Luke Joeckel will return to the First Coast in Week 14.

Joeckel, now a member of the Seattle Seahawks, left Jacksonville for the NFC West during free agency in March.

The Jaguars declined Joeckel's fifth-year contract option last season, which allowed the lineman to test the market.

The Seahawks signed Joeckel to a one-year, $7 million deal, despite the fact that the lineman missed the last 12 games of his Jaguars tenure with a season-ending left knee injury.

Joeckel's knee issues have cost him five games this season. However, when he has been in the lineup, he has performed well for Seattle.

Despite starting his career as a left tackle, Joeckel has found success as a left guard over the last two seasons. Last year, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone -  the team's offensive line coach at the time - made the decision to move him from left tackle to left guard.

"I thought he was playing well," Marrone said, regarding Joeckel's last season in Jacksonville.

"I liked the way he was playing, so obviously, I have experience with him and he's a good football player. He's playing well [now]."

Marrone thinks Joeckel is a versatile lineman. The former offensive line coach believes Joeckel can play tackle and guard.

"I liked him both at guard and tackle," Marrone said. "I thought he could play both but that was just my opinion of him."

Three starters miss practice

The Jaguars were without two starting wide receivers and a starting cornerback during practice Wednesday.

Wide receivers Allen Hurns (ankle) and Marqise Lee (knee) and cornerback Jalen Ramsey (hamstring) missed the session due to injury.

Hurns has been held out of practice and games since he suffered an ankle injury in Week 10. He has been replaced in the lineup by rookie Keelan Cole.

Lee has bounced on-and-off the injury report for weeks. However, he has yet to miss a game this season and leads the Jaguars in receptions and receiving yards.

Ramsey suffered a hamstring injury against the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday. Despite the ailment, he effectively shut down Pro Bowl wide receiver T.Y. Hilton.

Linebacker Telvin Smith and offensive tackle Josh Wells have made progress within the NFL's concussion protocol. Smith was listed as a full participant in practice, while Wells took part in limited drills.

Both players missed the Week 13 win over the Colts.
