Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone says he will deal with extensive injury report case by case

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone discusses preparation for Week 11

The Jaguars enter Week 11 as banged up as they've been all season.

Jacksonville listed 12 players on its injury report Monday. The group featured a laundry list of notable names:

- QB Blake Bortles (right wrist/illness)

- WR Marqise Lee (knee)

- WR Arrelious Benn (knee)

- CB Jalen Ramsey (back)

- RB Leonard Fournette (ankle)

- LB Blair Brown (hamstring)

- LB Lerentee McCray (foot)

- G Patrick Omameh (quad)

- RT Jermey Parnell (knee)

- WR Allen Hurns (ankle)

- TE Marcedes Lewis (knee)

- DE Dawuane Smoot (knee)

Parnell missed the Jaguars' Week 10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Omameh was forced to miss the second half of the game due to a quad injury.

Omameh struggled to perform in the first half against the Chargers after being medically cleared to play in the game. He was eventually replaced by backup lineman Tyler Shatley.

After watching how Omameh struggled coming off an injury-plagued week of practice, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said he will handle pre-game injury evaluations on a case-by-case basis.

"I think sometimes you don’t know until you get them out there and they start playing, so I think it’s difficult," Marrone said.

"Obviously the decision during the week was we thought he would be okay. Then when you go out there and you start watching him perform, you just have to make sure you make an adjustment. I would much rather players try, and I give Pat credit, he pulled himself out. I think we have a good enough trust and relationship. I usually sit down with the player and talk to them about how they’re going to be and that nature and they understand what the limitations of who you can dress on game day."

Omameh, Lee, Hurns, Brown, Smoot and Parnell all failed to practice Wednesday. Several players will be asked to step up in practice and - potentially - during this Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Jaguars are running low on depth at wide receiver with the current group dealing with a lack of experience. Undrafted rookie Keelan Cole is the only wide receiver outside of Lee and Hurns with multiple catches on the season.

Rookie wide receiver Dede Westbrook's return to the lineup from injured reserve is imminent. He has been practicing in a full capacity over the last few weeks as he has waited for his activation.

Still, leaning on two rookies with a combined experience of nine regular-season games could be a serious issue for the Jaguars. Veteran special teams ace Arrelious Benn offers experience at the position but he was also limited in practice as well.

"[Benn] will be a little limited too going into practice," Marrone said.

"It’s at that point where you go through – I try to simulate a tough training camp, so right prior to that third preseason game, you like to tell the players this is pretty much how you are going to feel at ‘this’ time during the year, both physically and mentally, so try to remember that. Part of this game is that it goes long. It’s a very physical game. It’s reflective of what you see on our injury report today."

Battered and bruised along the offensive line, the Jaguars have been able to count on Shatley for the last five games. He has played well in relief and may be needed again this weekend with Omameh and Parnell nursing injuries.
