HERZOGENAURACH, Germany (AP) -- David Beckham unveiled his new logo with Adidas - and announced he's extended his contract with the German sportswear company until 2008.
The logo was inspired by the free kicks of the English player - one of the trademarks of his game, along with the accuracy of his corner kicks. It will be used on a specially designed collection of Adidas products.
"The logo is totally me and something that people can relate to," Beckham said Wednesday. "The image of me taking a free kick is world renowned and instantly recognizable. I am proud to have worked with Adidas to develop it."
Terms of the deal weren't released.
Adidas said the logo was designed to catch the angle of Beckham's body upon impact as he steps into the free kick, familiar to many soccer fans. Beckham, who plays for Real Madrid, is one of soccer's best known players. His fame has spread far beyond soccer, in part due to his changing hairstyle and marriage to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.
