JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer indicates that the Jaguars have hired Mel Tucker as their new defensive coordinator.
Tucker was the Cleveland Browns' defensive coordinator in 2008 after spending the three previous seasons as the team's defensive backs coach.
Prior to his tenure in Cleveland, Tucker was the defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State University from 2001-2004. He was LSU's defensive backs coach in 2000, Miami of Ohio's defensive backs coach in 1999, and a graduate assistant at Michigan State in 1997 and 1998.
Tucker is 37 years old and replaces Gregg Williams as the Jaguars defensive coordinator although there is speculation that Jack Del Rio will be more involved in the team's defense this year and that Tucker will also be involved in coaching the defensive backs since Donnie Henderson, the secondary coach in 2008, is no longer with the team.
