Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - Offensive lineman David Born of Bakersfield
(Calif.) College has signed with Old Dominion football and will join the
program in the spring semester, Monarchs head coach Bobby Wilder announced
Monday.
The 6-foot-8, 355-pound Born will have three years of eligibility remaining.
He joins Dean Junior College offensive lineman D.J. Morrell as the second
junior college transfer to join ODU's program during the signing period.
"We are excited to welcome David to the ODU football family," Wilder said. "He
is an outstanding person, student and football player. The fact that he chose
ODU over UTEP, a FBS program that played BYU in a bowl game recently, shows
how far we have come as a program in recruiting. Our university as a whole
made a great impression on David when he visited our campus this past
weekend."
Born transferred to Bakersfield College from Sacramento State, where he
redshirted the 2009 season. At Bakersfield, he helped the Renegades to an 8-3
record, a National Northern Conference co-championship, and an appearance in
the SoCal playoffs this season.
ODU finished 8-3 this season - its second as FCS program. The Monarchs will
begin play in CAA Football next season.
