TAMPA, Fla. (WTSP) -- Willie Taggart has accepted the offer to become the third head football coach of the University of South Florida.
Sources with working knowledge of the offer confirmed to 10 News
tonight that Taggart will leave Western Kentucky University to return to
the Tampa Bay area. A Manatee high school graduate, Taggart led the
Hilltoppers to back to back post season bowl game berths. In three
seasons with WKU, Taggart compiled a 16-20 record, at his alma mater.
The Former Hilltopper quarterback was the running backs coach at
Stanford under then head coach Jim Harbaugh, prior to being named the
head coach at WKU. Under Taggart, WKU went 13-11 in the Sun Belt
Conference.
Taggart was considered to be a hot name amongst the coaching ranks
and was considered by many universities for their head coaching
vacancies.
