Missoula, MT (Sports Network) - Internet reports over the holiday weekend that
University of Montana starting quarterback Jordan Johnson was expelled from the
program are false.
Kevin McRae, the associate commissioner of higher education for communications
and human resources in the Montana University System, released a statement to
The Sports Network on Tuesday on behalf of Montana president Royce Engstrom
confirming Johnson is enrolled at the Big Sky Conference university.
The statement said, "Jordan Johnson is enrolled as a student at the University
of Montana. He completed spring semester. He is not enrolled for summer
semester or taking summer courses, but he is pre-enrolled for fall semester. He
is on the UM football roster, which means he is academically eligible and in
'good standing' as an enrolled student. A student-athlete must be in good
standing with the university to be on an athletic roster."
In March, a female Montana student alleged she was sexually assaulted by
Johnson and obtained a temporary restraining order against him. No charges have
been filed by police, although Johnson and the female student have a civil no-
contact agreement.
Johnson, a sophomore from Eugene, Ore., helped Montana win a share of the Big
Sky championship and reach the FCS semifinals last season.
Montana has had a troubled offseason, including the firing of football coach
Robin Pflugrad and athletic director Jim O'Day.
The university is being investigated by the U.S. Departments of Justice and
Education for how it handles rape cases.
