Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - Jahii Carson nearly registered a triple-double
in leading the Arizona State Sun Devils to an 83-68 rout of the Detroit
Titans in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament at Wells
Fargo Arena.
Carson finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for Arizona
State (22-12) which advances to face Baylor in the second round. Carrick Felix
added 20 points and seven rebounds, Jordan Bachynski had 16 points and
Jonathan Gilling tallied 10 points as well.
Jason Calliste scored 19 points, Ray McCallum, added 16 and Doug Anderson
chipped in 12 for Detroit (20-13).
At halftime the Sun Devils owned a 46-27 advantage by shooting 58.3 percent
from the field while holding the Titans to just six field goals on 22.2
percent shooting.
After the break the Sun Devils shot better than 50 percent from the floor yet
again to coast to the victory.
Arizona State was able to capture the win despite committing a game-high 24
turnovers which led to 27 points for the Titans. The Sun Devils had a 41-21
edge on the boards.
