Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Alex Oriakhi scored 13 points and pulled down
10 rebounds as the No. 6 seed Missouri Tigers defeated the No. 11 seed Texas
A&M Aggies, 62-50, in the second round of the Southeastern Conference
tournament at Bridgestone Arena.
For the Tigers (23-9), Jabari Brown, Tony Criswell and Jabari Brown each added
10 points, while Earnest Ross pulled down 10 rebounds. Missouri will now face
No. 3 seed Ole Miss in the quarterfinals.
Fabyon Harris led the Aggies (18-15) with 15 points.
Missouri took a 28-19 lead into halftime by shooting 50 percent from the field
and holding Texas A&M to just 23.1 percent shooting. The Aggies did have some
success from the perimeter early on, knocking down 4-of-10 from 3-point range
in the first half.
After intermission, the Tigers made just 40 percent of their field goal tries,
but again played strong defense and held the Aggies to just 25 percent
shooting from the field, including 1-of-6 from beyond the arc. Missouri pushed
its lead to as many as 21 in the second half and never trailed in the contest.
The Tigers dominated the boards, outrebounding the Aggies, 46-31. Texas A&M
shot a season-low 24.1 percent in the first SEC tournament confrontation
between these two former Big 12 rivals.
