Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - The sixth-seeded Florida State Seminoles
will advance to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament
to face the third-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels after defeating No. 11 seed
Clemson, 73-69, in the first round at Greensboro Coliseum.
Florida State (18-14) has won three in a row. Okaro White led the squad with a
career-high 24 points. Devon Bookert and Terrance Shannon each added 12
points, while Michael Snaer had 10 points and five assists.
The Tigers (13-18) have lost seven consecutive games to finish out their
season and have not topped 70 points since late January. Jordan Roper led
Clemson with 18 points, while K.J. McDaniels had 16 points and seven rebounds
before fouling out. Devin Booker contributed 11 points and Damarcus Harrison
grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Clemson led 35-30 at halftime after shooting 4-of-6 from 3-point range and
holding Florida State to 1-of-4 from beyond the arc in the opening stanza.
In the second half, Florida State outscored the Tigers 43-34 while holding
them to just 36.4 percent from the field. The Seminoles went on a 17-5 run
midway through the half, and Snaer went on to hit four clutch free throws in
the final moments to lock up the win.
Florida State finished the contest shooting 48.9 percent from the floor and 75
percent from the foul line.
