Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Led by a game-high 23 points from Shayne
Whittington, the third-seeded Western Michigan Broncos downed the seventh-
seeded Eastern Michigan Eagles, 70-55, in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-
American Conference Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.
For the Broncos (20-11), Darius Paul added 14 points, David Brown scored 12
points and Brandon Pokley tallied 11 points. The Broncos will now take on No.
2 seed Ohio in the semifinal round on Friday night.
Daylen Harrison paced the Eagles (16-18) with 14 points, while Da'Shonte Riley
pulled down 10 rebounds.
WMU went into halftime leading 36-32, connecting on 52 percent from the field,
including 3-of-10 from 3-point range. EMU shot 46.2 percent from the field and
5-of-8 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Although they trailed for the entire second half, the Eagles did manage to cut
their deficit to just one, 50-49, with 8:31 to play, but the Broncos responded
with an 8-0 run to retake control. The WMU lead was never less than five the
rest of the way, as it held on for the victory and advanced to the semifinals.
WMU finished with a 35-28 rebounding edge. The Broncos also outscored the
Eagles at the free-throw line, 24-6.
