Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Led by 15 points from Big West Player of the
Year James Ennis, the top-seeded Long Beach State 49ers downed the No. 9 seed
Cal State Fullerton Titans, 75-66, in a Big West Conference quarterfinal round
matchup at the Honda Center.
Deng Deng added 12 points for the 49ers (19-12), Mike Caffey and Peter
Pappageorge each chipped in with 10 points each and Dan Jennings pulled down
10 rebounds. LBSU moves on to the semifinals where they will face the winner
of the UC Irvine/Hawaii matchup..
For the Titans (14-18), Kwame Vaughn and Alex Harris each scored a game-high
19 points and Jordan Knox finished with 12 points.
LBSU took a 41-31 lead into halftime by knocking down 53.6 percent of its
field goal tries in the opening stanza, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range.
CSF also shot the ball well, hitting on 52.2 percent from the field and 3-of-7
from 3-point distance.
In the second half, the 49ers continued their strong shooting, hitting on 63.6
percent from the field, but just 1-of-5 from 3-point range. The Titans made
46.4 percent from the field, including 4-of-8 from 3-point distance. The
Titans got no closer than four in the second half, as the 49ers kept them at
bay and secured the victory.
LBSU outscored the Titans in the paint, 40-30, and dominated on the boards,
37-18.
