Katy, TX (Sports Network) - Brandon Fortenberry scored 18 points and pulled
down eight rebounds as the Southeastern Louisiana Lions captured an 85-65 win
over the McNeese State Cowboys in the quarterfinals of the Southland
Conference Tournament at the Merrell Center.
Dre Evans added 17 points for the fourth-seeded Lions (13-17), followed by
Onochie Ochie with 15 points and eight rebounds in order to send the team to
the semifinals on Friday to do battle with top-seeded Stephen F. Austin.
Jeffery Ricard contributed 14 points and Roger Woods 10 in the victory.
The eighth-seeded Cowboys (14-17) were led by Desharick Guidry with 16 points,
Craig McFerrin 15 and nine boards, followed by Dontae Cannon with 10 points in
the losing cause.
The Lions produced a 53-36 lead at the break on the strength of 57.1 percent
shooting from the floor, which included 7-of-12 beyond the arc, not to mention
a perfect 14-of-14 showing at the free-throw line.
In the second half Southeastern Louisiana again shot the ball well from the
field at a 54.2 percent clip in order to cruise to the 20-point win.
