Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Chris Evans knocked down a pair of free throws with 5.6 second remaining to give Kent State enough of a cushion to pull out a 70-68 win over the Buffalo Bulls in third-round action of the Mid- American Conference Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.

Evans finished the outing with a huge double-double consisting of 25 points and 15 rebounds for the fourth-seeded Golden Flashes (20-12). Also scoring in double figures were Randal Holt and Darren Goodson with 17 and 12 points, respectively.

With the victory, Kent State now advances to play the top-seeded Akron Zips in the semifinals.

The eighth-seeded Bulls (14-20) were paced by Tony Watson who logged a double- double of his own with 23 points and 11 boards, adding five assists and a couple of steals in the setback. Javon McCrea added 20 points and Will Regan 14 for Buffalo.

The Golden Flashes shot a decent 42.3 percent from the field in the first half and held a 21-16 rebounding edge, but the squad converted just 1-of-7 behind the 3-point line and turned the ball over seven times, en route to a 32-30 deficit at the break.

In the second half KSU improved from the floor (.560) and cut down on the mistakes in order to be in a position to grab the win in the final moments.

The Golden Flashes survived despite connecting on just 3-of-15 attempts beyond the arc.
