Missoula, MT (Sports Network) - Frank Otis scored 16 points, leading four
starters in double figures, as the Weber State Wildcats crushed the Northern
Arizona Lumberjacks, 84-58, in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference
Tournament at Dahlberg Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the second-seeded Wildcats (25-5) were
Davion Berry with 13 points, to go along with six rebounds and six assists,
followed by Kyle Tresnak and Scott Bamforth with 12 points apiece.
With the victory, Weber State moves to the semifinals on Friday with an
opponent to be determined as the league re-seeds teams for the next round.
The seventh-seeded Lumberjacks (11-21) were led by DeWayne Russell who tallied
a game-high 21 points, while Gabe Rogers pitched in with 12 points, but
between the pair they accounted for nine of the unit's 17 turnovers as well.
Weber State took control immediately, shooting 50 percent from the field in
order to establish a 36-21 advantage at the break. The 'Jacks converted only
nine total field goals through the first 20 minutes, missing all six chances
behind the 3-point line.
In the second half NAU continued to struggle from the floor (.393), while the
Wildcats made good on not just 57.1 percent from the field but also 14-of-17
at the free-throw line in order to cruise to the lopsided decision.
WSU overcame a 5-of-16 showing beyond the arc by holding the opposition to
just 4-of-16 out on the perimeter.
