Troy, AL (Sports Network) - Augustine Rubit registered a double-double with 13
points and 10 rebounds as the South Alabama Jaguars defeated the Troy Trojans,
53-49, in the regular season finale between the Sun Belt Conference foes at
Trojan Arena.
Javier Carter also posted a double-double for USA (17-11, 14-6 Sun Belt) with
10 points and 13 boards which he accompanied with five blocks. Antoine Allen
added 12 points for the Jaguars, who will head into the conference tournament
as the No. 3 seed.
Emil Jones paced Troy (11-20, 6-14) with a game-high 22 points and eight
rebounds. Westley Hinton chipped in 10 points off the bench for the Trojans as
they finished the season at the bottom of the East Division standings.
The Trojans took control early on as they hit 40.7 percent of their field goal
attempts en route to a 28-19 halftime lead. USA struggled early on, going 8-
of-23 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The Jaguars heated up to connect on 50 percent of their attempts from the
field after the break while they limited the hosts to 8-of-27 shooting
including an 0-of-7 mark from 3-point range. USA used a 15-point run that
stretched over the half to tie the score at 28.
The extra effort on the offensive glass helped the Jaguars secure the win as
they outscored the hosts, 14-6, in second chance points.
