Boca Raton, FL (Sports Network) - Stefan Moody finished with a game-high 28
points to lead the Florida Atlantic Owls to a 77-60 victory over the FIU
Panthers, in Sun Belt Conference action at FAU Arena.
For the Owls (14-17, 9-11 SBC), Greg Gantt added 16 points, Pablo
Bertone chipped in with 13 points and Andre Mattison posted a double-double
with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Malik Smith led the Panthers (16-13, 11-9) with 18 points and Tymell Murphy
finished with 10 points.
FIU led at halftime, 31-30, shooting 40.7 from the field and 3-of-11 from 3-
point range. FAU was held to 35.3 shooting from the field and missed all but
one of their 11 3-point tries.
After intermission, the Owls heated up, draining 69.2 percent of their field
goal tries. The Panthers struggled in the second half, shooting just 33.3
percent from the field. The Owls opened the second half on a 15-4 run and
never looked back, pushing their lead to as many as 20, as they cruised to
victory.
FAU outscored FIU in the paint, 40-30, and had a 44-28 rebounding edge.
Despite the loss, FIU will be the No. 4 seed in next week's Sun Belt
Conference Tournament. FAU will enter the tourney as the No. 7 seed thanks to
the win.
