Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) - Isaiah Austin finished with 21 points, six
rebounds and two blocks as the Baylor Bears defeated the West Virginia
Mountaineers, 65-62, in a Big 12 Conference matchup at the WVU Coliseum.
Pierre Jackson added 15 points and five assists for Baylor (17-11, 8-7 Big 12)
as it snapped a three-game losing streak. A.J. Walton chipped in 10 points and
Cory Jefferson pulled down 11 boards.
Eron Harris poured in 25 points for WVU (13-15, 6-9) while Kevin Noreen
provided 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench. The loss was the third in
a row for the Mountaineers.
WVU shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half and led by as many as
nine before it took a 34-29 lead into the intermission. The Bears managed to
convert only 36.7 percent of their shots from the floor before the break.
Baylor overcame a seven-point deficit in the second half and went on top for
good when Austin drained a 3-pointer with 9:18 remaining that gave the
visitors a 53-50 lead. Jackson sank a pair at the charity stripe with 18
seconds left to give the Bears a 65-62 lead and Gary Franklin blocked Juwan
Staten's last second 3-point attempt to clinch the victory.
Despite the loss, WVU held a 42-32 edge in the rebounding battle. Both sides
combined to go 7-of-35 from beyond the arc.
