New York, NY (Sports Network) - Baylor strengthened its hold as the top team
in women's college basketball, earning the No. 1 ranking from the Associated
Press for the seventh straight week.
The Lady Bears received 38 first-place votes -- one more than last week -- and
a total of 998 points from a nationwide media panel.
Notre Dame, Connecticut, Stanford, Duke and California kept their respective
places from second through sixth. UConn picked up the last two first-place
votes -- one fewer than last week.
Penn State, Kentucky, Maryland and Texas A&M complete this week's top 10.
Kentucky and Maryland share eighth place, while Texas A&M moved up one spot
from 11th.
The second 10 consists of Tennessee, Louisville, Georgia, Dayton, South
Carolina, North Carolina, UCLA, Delaware, Florida State and Colorado.
Louisville dropped two spots from 10th after a loss to Notre Dame last week.
Syracuse, Purdue, Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Green Bay are the last five
teams ranked. Nebraska and Green Bay are this week's newcomers, replacing Iowa
State and Oklahoma.
