Peoria, IL (Sports Network) - Walt Lemon, Jr. and Tyshon Pickett led the way
with 17 points each, as the Bradley Braves defeated the Indiana State
Sycamores, 80-68, in a Missouri Valley Conference clash at Carver Arena.
Dyricus Simms-Edwards added 13 points for the Braves (15-12, 7-8) and Will
Egolf chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds. Ka'Darryl Bell recorded 10
points and four steals for Bradley, which snapped a two-game losing streak.
For the Sycamores (16-10, 9-6), Dawon Cummings led all scorers with 19 points
on 5-of-6 from 3-point range, while Jake Odum and R.J. Mahurin each finished
with 14 points. Odum went a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line and
moved into sixth place in school history for single-season free throws made
(159).
Indiana State was hot from the field to start the contest, connecting on 58.3
of its field goal tries in the first half, including 5-of-7 from 3-point
distance, as it took a 38-35 advantage into intermission.
In the second half, the Braves heated up from the field, knocking down 60
percent of their field goal attempts, while the Sycamores were limited to just
34.5 percent shooting. Bradley opened the second half on an 11-4 run and never
again relinquished the lead. Indiana State cut its deficit to just two on
several occasions, but it could never complete the comeback.
Indiana State committed 21 turnovers, which Bradley turned into 28 points.
