Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Fred Chatmon recorded a game-high 20 points
as the UMKC Kangaroos defeated the South Dakota Coyotes, 80-65, in Summit
League play at the Swinney Recreation Center.
Chatmon came off the bench to make 7-of-8 from the floor and added seven
boards for the Kangaroos (7-19, 4-8 Summit). Nate Rogers and Kirk Korver
contributed 17 and 15 points, respectively. Estan Tyler tallied 14 points,
seven boards, and six assists as UMKC snapped a five-game losing streak.
For the Coyotes (8-16, 4-8), Trevor Gruis put up a team-high 17 points and
five boards. Juevol Myles added 13 points and Brandon Bos netted 11 points as
South Dakota lost its fourth consecutive game.
UMKC started the game on a 9-2 run and held the visitors to a mere 2-of-11
beyond the arc en route to a 38-31 advantage at the break.
UMKC knocked down 55.2 percent from the floor including 7-of-11 from long-
range to extend its lead after the break. South Dakota was unable to close the
gap despite a 10-of-11 performance at the free-throw line in the second
stanza.
South Dakota was held to a mere 4-of-16 made 3-pointers, while UMKC made 12-
of-24 from beyond the arc and controlled the boards, 34-24.
