Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Jason Calliste went 5-of-9 from 3-point range
en route to a team-high 22 points to lead the Detroit Titans to an 82-74
decision over the Milwaukee Panthers in a Horizon League tilt at the Klotsche
Center.
Nick Minnerath added 18 points and eight rebounds for Detroit (16-8, 8-3
Horizon) as it collected its fourth consecutive win. Ray McCallum and Doug
Anderson scored 16 points apiece while Evan Bruinsma pulled down 10 boards in
24 minutes off the bench.
James Haarsma pumped in 26 points to pace the Panthers (5-19, 1-9) as they
dropped their sixth straight decision. Paris Gulley went 4-of-13 from the
field to net 11 points while Demetrius Harris chimed in with 10 points.
The Titans initially looked like they would run away with it as they managed
to build a 22-6 lead less than seven minutes after tip-off, but Milwaukee
rallied back to tie the score at 33 before Calliste knocked down a 3-pointer
to send Detroit into the intermission with a narrow lead. Both sides made 14
field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
The Panthers managed to take their first lead since the opening minutes of the
contest with 13:14 left in regulation when Ryan Haggerty drilled a shot from
beyond the arc to put the hosts ahead, 49-46. Minnerath knocked down a jumper
and McCallum got free for a dunk on consecutive possessions to put the
visitors back on top for good. Milwaukee's bench outscored the Detroit
reserves, 16-4, in the second stanza.
The Titans held a 35-30 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored Milwaukee,
15-4, in fast break points.
