Riverdale, NY (Sports Network) - Donovan Kates led the way with 14 points as
the Manhattan Jaspers downed the Canisius Golden Griffins, 67-54, in a Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup at Draddy Gymnasium.
For the Jaspers (8-15, 6-7 MAAC), Rhamel Brown and RaShawn Stores each
finished with 13 points, while Michael Alvarado chipped in with 10 points.
The Golden Griffins (15-9, 8-5) were led by Alshwan Hymes with 16 points and
Billy Baron with 14 points.
Manhattan started the game with the hot hand, connecting on 52.2 percent of
its field goal tries in the first half, including 4-of-6 from beyond the 3-
point arc, as it took a commanding 35-19 lead into halftime. Canisius
struggled from the floor, making only 18.2 percent of it field goal attempts.
After intermission, the Golden Griffins finally found their stroke and knocked
down 50 percent of their field goal tries, including 6-of-14 from 3-point
range. Not to be outdone, the Jaspers improved to 57.9 percent shooting after
the break, pushing their lead to as many as 27 points in the half as they
coasted to victory.
The Jaspers won the battle in the trenches, outscoring the Golden Griffins in
the paint, 28-14, and winning the rebounding battle by a 29-24 margin.
