Cedar City, UT (Sports Network) - Damon Heuir scored a game-high 27 points as
the Southern Utah Thunderbirds registered a 78-67 win over the Northern
Arizona Lumberjacks in Big Sky Conference action at Centrum Arena.
Jackson Stevenett recorded a double-double with 15 points and a team-best 10
rebounds for the Thunderbirds (9-12, 7-5 Big Sky) as they extended their win
streak to four in a row.
The Lumberjacks (6-14, 4-8) were paced by Max Jacobsen with 17 points,
followed by Gabe Rogers and Ephraim Ekanem with 13 and 12 points,
respectively. Stallon Saldivar logged 12 rebounds, seven points and five
assists as the team bowed for the second time in as many games.
SUU shot not only 46.7 percent from the floor in the first half, the team also
converted 9-of-10 at the free-throw line in order to claim a 40-32 edge at the
break.
In the second half both teams shot just under 45 percent from the field, but
the Thunderbirds outscored the visitors at the free-throw line in the frame,
14-7, en route to the double-digit win.
Southern Utah won the rebounding battle 39-34, limiting NAU to just seven
boards at the offensive end of the floor.
