Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Billy Baron scored 23 points to lead all five
starters in double figures for the Canisius Golden Griffins who topped the
Iona Gaels, 77-74, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Koessler
Athletic Center.
Harold Washington had 13 points, Isaac Sosa and Chris Manhertz each added 12
and Jordan Heath put in 10 for Canisius (15-8, 8-4 MAAC) which has won five
of its last six.
Taaj Ridley had 18 points, Lamont Jones added 13 and Curtis Dennis and David
Laury each chipped in 11 while Laury also collected 16 rebounds for Iona
(14-9, 8-4) which has lost three straight.
Iona got out to a 40-38 lead at halftime despite shooting 37.5 percent from
the floor. Canisius shot 43.8 percent but had a 6-3 deficit from the
free-throw line.
After halftime Canisius shot just 34.8 percent from the floor but was able
to rally by hitting 7-of-14 from beyond the arc and 16-of-21 from the
free-throw line.
The Golden Griffins had a 42-21 edge in points from beyond the arc to
overcome a 49-35 deficit in rebounds.
