Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Troy Daniels netted 29 points to lead the
Virginia Commonwealth Rams to an 81-65 win over the Fordham Rams in an
Atlantic 10 bout at the Siegel Center.
Juvonte Reddic registered a double-double for VCU (18-5, 6-2 A-10) with 11
points and 10 rebounds while Treveon Graham scored 15 points and grabbed eight
boards.
Bryan Smith led Fordham (6-16, 2-5) with 17 points as the visiting Rams lost
in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Mandell Thomas added 16
points and nine rebounds and Jermaine Myers added 11 points off the bench.
VCU struggled to find the range in the first half, connecting on just 28.2
percent of its shots. However, it corralled nine offensive rebounds in
the opening period and forced 11 Fordham turnovers. VCU led 38-33 at the
break.
The hosting Rams scored the first seven points of the second half and built
their lead to as many as 24 points due in large part to a Daniels' sequence
where he hit three consecutive triples.
Fordham lost despite holding VCU to 34.3 percent shooting for the game.
