Greenville, SC (Sports Network) - P.J. Horgan led five Bulldogs in double-
figures with 23 points as The Citadel downed the Furman Paladins, 84-79, in a
Southern Conference bout at Timmons Arena.
Mike Groselle also had a productive outing for The Citadel (6-15, 3-8 SoCon),
as he finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
Ashton Moore chipped in 14 points, Matt Van Scyoc added 13, and Marshall
Harris III contributed 11 points and seven assists.
For Furman (6-14, 3-6), Charlie Reddick scored 26 points, Colin Reddick
tallied 21 points, and they both pulled down eight boards. Stephen Croone
added a double-double of 12 points and 12 assists as the Paladins suffered
their second loss in three outings.
The Paladins were in control in the opening stanza as they hit 50 percent of
their shots from the field including 4-of-11 from beyond the arc to take a
40-24 lead into halftime. The Citadel was held to just 38.5 percent shooting
from the floor and committed six turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
The Bulldogs came alive after the break. Horgan scored 17 of his points in the
second half as The Citadel shot a red-hot 74.1 percent from the floor while
assisting 14 of its 20 makes. Furman watched its lead evaporate as it
committed 16 fouls and 10 turnovers in the second stanza. The visitors managed
to build a lead as great as nine after rallying from 18 points down to collect
their second win in a row.
The Citadel scored 17 points off of turnovers to overcame the Paladins' 39-25
edge in the rebounding battle. The victory snapped the Bulldogs' five-game
losing streak in their series with the Paladins.
