Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) - Trae Golden sank a clutch free throw with 32
seconds remaining put the game out of reach as the Tennessee Volunteers
defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide, 54-53, in Southeastern Conference action at
Thompson-Boling Arena.
Jarnell Stokes recorded a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down 18
boards for the Volunteers (10-8, 2-4 SEC). Jordan McRae added 17 points but
was the only other player in double figures as Tennessee won for the second
time in three games.
For the Crimson Tide (12-7, 4-2), Trevor Releford tallied a game-high 18
points and five steals. Trevor Lacey scored 11 points and Rodney Cooper
chipped in 10 points for Alabama, which had its four-game winning streak
snapped.
Before the break, Alabama shot 50 percent from the floor including 3-of-8 from
long range. It held the hosts to a mere 0-of-5 3-pointers, en route to a 25-19
advantage at the half.
Tennessee shot 54.5 percent from the floor and 9-of-14 from the free throw
line in the second stanza.. Alabama made 44 percent of its field goals and 3-
of-7 foul shots. Tennessee took a 35-28 advantage during the second half, en
route to a one- point victory.
Tennessee controlled the boards 37-22, and points in the paint, 36-24.
