Troy, AL (Sports Network) - Emil Jones led the way with 16 points, including a
3-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game to an extra session, as
the Troy Trojans downed the Arkansas State Red Wolves in overtime, 74-67, in a
Sun Belt Conference showdown at Trojan Arena.
For the Trojans (8-12, 3-6 SBC), Antoine Myers added 13 points, Hunter
Williams finished with 12 points, and Tevin Calhoun chimed in with 10 points.
Cameron Golden led the Red Wolves (11-8, 5-5) with 18 points, while Brandon
Peterson posted a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Ed Townsel
finished with 14 points and six turnovers and Raeford Worsham added 12 points.
ASU took a 33-26 lead at the break by connecting on 63.2 percent of its
field goal tries in the first half, including 5-of-6 from beyond the 3-point
arc. Troy shot 48 percent from field but just 2-of-8 from 3-point distance in
the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, the Red Wolves struggled mightily from the field, making
only 25.9 percent of their field goal attempts, including 4-of-12 from 3-point
distance. The Trojans hit on 46.2 percent of their field goal attempts and 4-
of-11 from three-point range. The Trojans trailed by three in the final
seconds, but Jones kept the home team's hopes alive with his last second trey.
In the extra session, each team was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line,
but the Red Wolves missed all six of their field goal attempts in overtime
while the Trojans made 3-of-5 from the field in overtime to finish off the
comeback victory.
Troy outscored ASU in the paint, 32-20. The Red Wolves missed their final 12
field goal attempts, including regulation and overtime.
