Charleston, IL (Sports Network) - Jud Dillard scored a game-high 34 points on
12-of-18 shooting, to lead the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles over the Eastern
Illinois Panthers, 77-73, in an Ohio Valley Conference battle at Lantz Arena.
For the Golden Eagles, (7-9, 1-3 OVC), Dennis Ogbe added 11 points and
Jeremiah Samarrippas dished out eight assists.
Morris Woods led the Panthers (3-14, 0-4) with 25 points, while Sherman
Blanford finished with 16 points and six assists.
EIU came out of the gate on fire as the Panthers knocked down 65.4 percent of
their field goals tries in the first half, including 3-of-8 from beyond the
3-point arc, as they went into the break leading 44-40. TTU also shot the
ball well, connecting on 56.5 percent from the field and drained 7-of-12 from
3-point range.
After halftime, both squads cooled off from the field. The Golden Eagles
still made 48 percent of their field goal attempts, including 5-of-10 from
3-point range. The Panthers dropped to 42.9 percent from the field and just
2-of-6 from 3-point distance. Trailing 68-62 with four minutes to play, the
Golden Eagles used an 11-3 run to take a two point lead with 53 seconds to
play. The Panthers tied the game at 73-73 18 seconds later, but the Golden
Eagles scored the final four points of the contest to complete their comeback
victory and grab their first conference win of the season.
EIU had a 34-22 scoring advantage in the paint. TTU finished the game
12-of-22 from 3-point distance.
