Provo, UT (Sports Network) - Tyler Haws scored a game-high 24 points as the
BYU Cougars posted a 76-51 win over the Pepperdine Waves in West Coast
Conference action at the Marriott Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Cougars (13-4, 3-0 WCC) as they won
their fifth straight and the eighth in the last nine outings, were Brandon
Davies and Matt Carlino with 19 and 13 points, respectively, the former also
pulling down a game-high nine rebounds.
The Waves (9-7, 1-2) were paced by Jordan Baker with 20 points, the only
double-digit scorer for the visitors as they lost for the second time in the
last three outings.
Pepperdine led by as many as nine points in the first half as the Cougars shot
a dismal 28.1 percent from the floor, including 2-of-11 behind the 3-point
line in the frame. However, thanks to 10-of-12 shooting at the free-throw
line, BYU was able to stay close at the break and trail by just five points at
intermission, 35-30.
In the second half the Cougars erupted for 58.1 percent shooting from the
floor and held the Waves to a mere six made field goals in the period, en
route to the 25-point win.
In addition to scoring 23 points off 16 Pepperdine turnovers, the Cougars kept
good care of the ball with just six miscues of their own.
