Grand Forks, ND (Sports Network) - Mathias Ward scored a game-high 27 points,
leading four starters in double figures, as the Montana Grizzlies registered a
77-62 win over North Dakota in Big Sky Conference play at the Betty Engelstad
Sioux Center.
Will Cherry accounted for 14 points and seven assists for Montana (9-4, 5-0
Big Sky) as the team won its 18th consecutive conference outing. Kevin
Henderson chipped in with 12 points and Kareem Jamar 11, to go along with
seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
North Dakota (4-10, 1-4), losers of two straight, was paced by Troy Huff who
came off the bench to register 24 points, five boards and four steals, while
Jamal Webb also filled his stat line with 11 points, seven assists, four
boards and four steals as well.
Both teams shot the ball well from the floor in the first half, but even with
56.0 percent accuracy, which included 3-of-6 beyond the arc, UND had to settle
for a 38-36 deficit at the break.
In the second half North Dakota dropped down to a mere 26.9 percent shooting
from the field and 1-of-12 on the perimeter, allowing Montana to run away with
the victory.
Montana, which has now won five straight games overall, forced 16 turnovers on
the night.
