Brookings, SD (Sports Network) - Tony Fiegen shot 11-of-15 from the floor and
scored 24 points to lead the South Dakota State Jackrabbits to an 81-74 win
over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in a Summit League battle at Frost Arena.
Jordan Dykstra registered a double-double for SDSU (12-6, 3-2 Summit) scoring
22 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Nate Wolters went for 16 points and
nine assists while Chad White scored 11 points.
Corey Petros led Oakland (7-11, 2-2) with 22 points and 15 boards, while
Travis Bader scored 21 points but shot just 4-of-17 from the field and 2-of-11
from 3-point range. Ryan Bass added 15 points. The Grizzlies' reserves did
not register a single point.
The first half featured nine ties and six lead changes as both teams were
scoring at will. SDSU shot 51.7 percent from the floor while Oakland got to
the free-throw stripe and hit 7-of-8. Wolters knocked down a jumper as time
expired in the half as Oakland entered the locker room ahead, 37-35.
The score was tied 53-53 at the 11:13 mark when Dykstra scored consecutive
buckets, sparking a 12-3 Jackrabbits run. The Grizzlies battled and cut it to
a 77-74 deficit with 49 seconds remaining with two Drew Valentine free
throws, but that was as close as they would get.
Oakland is now 2-8 in games where it shoots less than 43 percent from the
floor. SDSU has won 24 consecutive home games, the third-best current
streak in the NCAA.
