Edwardsville, IL (Sports Network) - Brian Williams scored 19 points and dished
out eight assists to lead the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to a 75-62 road win
over the SIU Edwardsville Cougars in Ohio Valley Conference play at the
Vadalabene Center.
The bench came up huge for JSU (11-5, 3-2 OVC) as Ronnie Boggs and Tarvin
Gaines combined for 30 points with 16 and 14, respectively, while hitting 10-
of-11 at the foul line. Nick Cook added 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and
Darion Rackley scored 11 points.
Jerome Jones led the Cougars (4-9, 0-3) with 15 points while Michael Messer
scored 14 points to go along with nine boards. Kris Davis filled the stat
sheet with eight points, six assists and five boards as SIUE suffered its
fourth consecutive loss.
A back and forth first half resulted in a 32-29 lead for the Cougars at
halftime. The Gamecocks hit 5-of-8 shots from behind the arc but got
outrebounded, 16-10.
JSU trailed 40-31 after a Davis 3-pointer before putting together a 21-2 run
midway through the second period. Gaines scored all 14 of his points in the
final 16:53 of the contest.
Both teams scored 34 points in the paint while JSU outscored the Cougars in
transition, 10-0. The Gamecocks improved to 2-1 all-time against SIUE.
