Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Chris Gaston recorded a double-double with 18
points and 10 rebounds as the Fordham Rams defeated the Duquesne Dukes, 82-75,
in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams at Rose Hill Gym.
Gaston was 9-of-12 from the field and tallied two blocks and two steals for
the Rams (5-11, 1-0 A-10), who have won their last three home games. Branden
Frazier also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 assists. Ryan
Canty added 12 points and eight boards.
Derrick Colter just missed a double-double of his own with 17 points and nine
assists for the Dukes (7-8, 0-1), who lost their third in a row. Kadeem
Pantophlet managed 13 points and six rebounds, while Sean Johnson added 12
points.
Fordham led 47-41 at halftime after shooting 57.1 percent from the floor and
blocking seven Duquesne shot attempts.
The Rams outscored the Dukes 35-34 in the second half, shooting 48.3 percent
from the field and holding on for the win.
Fordham shot at an efficient 53.1 percent from the floor throughout the game
while holding Duquesne to 37.8 percent. It also held a commanding 49-34
rebounding advantage.
