Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Daveon Boardingham led the way with 16 points
as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles dismissed the Rice Owls, 75-52, in each
team's Conference USA opener at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Michael Craig came off the bench to tally 15 points and eight rebounds for
Southern Miss (12-4, 1-0 C-USA), which has won four in a row. Dwayne Davis and
Jerrold Brooks put up 11 points apiece for the visiting team.
For Rice (3-11, 0-1), Austin Ramljak drained 4-of-9 from 3-point range on his
way to 14 points. Tamir Jackson recorded 13 points and six rebounds, and
Julian DeBose netted 10 in the Owls' fourth straight loss.
Southern Miss shot a lofty 61.9 percent from the field in the first half,
while holding the Owls to just 28 percent shooting, as it went into halftime
with a 32-22 advantage.
The Eagles actually improved their shooting to an astounding 76 percent after
the break as they cruised to the 23-point victory. They made good on 69.6
percent of their field goal attempts on the night.
Southern Miss doubled up Rice on the boards, 32-16, and it outscored the Owls
in the paint, 46-20.
