Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - John Hart scored 26 points, leading five
players in double figures, as the IUPUI Jaguars captured an 88-74 win over the
Mastodons of IUPU-Fort Wayne in Summit League action at Bankers Life
Fieldhouse.
Also scoring in double figures for the Jaguars (6-10, 1-2 Summit), as they won
back-to-back games for the first time this season, were Greg Rice with 16
points, to go along with a game-high seven assists, followed by Lyonell Gaines
and Donovan Gibbs with 12 points apiece and Mitchell Patton 10 in just 15
minutes off the bench. Gaines also accounted for eight rebounds and five
steals for the Jags.
The Mastodons (6-8, 0-1) were paced by Frank Gaines who tallied a game-high 28
points on 10-of-21 shooting from the floor, adding seven rebounds to tie for
the team high as the squad bowed for the fourth time in five outings.
Fort Wayne shot an impressive 51.7 percent from the floor in the first half,
but the team converted just 2-of-7 on the perimeter which left the group with
a 39-39 tie at the break. During the first 20 minutes of action, IUPUI knocked
down 6-of-10 shots from 3-point range.
The second half belonged to the Jaguars as they connected on a sizzling 72.0
percent (18-of-25) from the field, adding 11-of-13 accuracy at the free-throw
line, in order to grab the double-digit win.
In a game that featured six ties and eight lead changes, the Mastodons
converted just 4-of-17 beyond the arc and turned the ball over 16 times.
