Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - Keifer Sykes scored 20 points to lead the
Green Bay Phoenix to a 49-47 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles in a non-
conference tilt between in-state rivals at the Resch Center.
Sykes also dished out a team-high five assists for Green Bay (4-7). Greg Mays
added 11 points while Alec Brown grabbed seven rebounds. Kam Cerroni scored
five points and was the only reserve to score for Green Bay.
Jamil Wilson tallied 16 points off the bench for Marquette (7-3) while Junior
Cadougan contributed eight points and six assists. The Golden Eagles' starting
lineup was outscored by their reserves, 26-21.
Green Bay led by nine points midway through the first half before Marquette
went on a 10-0 run to climb on top. Wilson scored seven of those 10 points to
help the Golden Eagles take a 31-29 lead into the intermission.
Both teams went cold from the floor in the second half as Green Bay shot 25
percent and Marquette 27.3 percent. Green Bay led by four with 1:25 remaining
in the game when Davante Gardner produced a traditional three-point play for
Marquette. Vander Blue had a chance to tie the game and take a lead moments
later but he missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Green Bay held on.
Green Bay snaps a four-game losing streak with the win while holding Marquette
to its lowest scoring output of the season.
