Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Tyreek Duren hit the game-winning field goal
with two seconds remaining as the La Salle Explorers escaped with a 66-64 road
victory over the Northeastern Huskies in non-conference action at Matthews
Arena.
Duren finished with 12 points and four steals for La Salle (6-1), which
extended its winning streak to five games. Ramon Galloway paced all scorers
with 24 points, and Jerrell Wright added 13 points.
For Northeastern (4-5), Reggie Spencer shot 8-of-11 from the field for 16
points while also hauling in seven rebounds. Zach Stahl scored 12 points, Joel
Smith netted 11, and Dinko Marshavelski chipped in 10 for the Huskies, who
have lost four in a row.
Both teams were hot from the field in the first half, with Northeastern making
66.7 percent of its shot attempts and La Salle shooting 50 percent from the
floor. The Explorers made four three-pointers in the opening frame, and they
took a 36-34 lead into intermission.
La Salle led by as many as seven in the second half, but Northeastern came
back to tie the game, 64-64, with 1:19 left in the game on a Quincy Ford
jumper. The teams exchanged empty possessions in the final minute before Duren
drained the game-winner in the waning seconds. The Huskies had one last
opportunity but a Ford jumper at the buzzer did not fall.
Although Northeastern shot a lofty 54.9 percent from the field in the contest,
it was just 3-of-12 from three-point range.
