Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The Marquette backcourt combined for 35
points to lead the Golden Eagles to a 60-50 win over instate rival the
Wisconsin Badgers at the Bradley Center.
Junior Cadougan shot 7-of-10 from the field for 18 points for Marquette (6-2),
while Vander Blue scored 17 points. Davante Gardner contributed 10 points and
a team-high eight rebounds off the bench, and Cadougan also handed out six
assists.
Jared Berggren and Ryan Evans each scored nine points for Wisconsin (6-4),
which shot just 17-of-52 from the floor as a team and snapped a two-game
winning streak with the setback.
The Badgers struggled from the field in the first half, hitting just 8-of-23
overall, including 1-of-9 from beyond the three-point line. Marquette scored
22 points in the paint and never trailed in the half. The Eagles led 34-20 at
intermission.
Wisconsin cut the deficit to three midway through the second half on a
Berggren triple, but Marquette went on a 7-0 run later in the half and
survived to beat the Badgers for the second consecutive season.
Neither team was sharp from the foul line. Wisconsin went 9-of-23 from the
stripe, while Marquette was only 7-of-17.
