Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Ashley Hamilton made all seven of his free
throw attempts and scored 19 points to lead the Loyola Marymount Lions to a
66-56 win over the Portland State Vikings at Gersten Pavilion.
Hamilton has now scored in double figures in all eight games this season for
the Lions (4-4). Leading scorer Anthony Ireland struggled from the field but
managed 12 points thanks to an 8-of-10 shooting performance from the free
throw stripe. Godwin Okonji, Chase Flint and C.J. Blackwell all added 10. Alex
Osborne did not score but finished with nine boards.
Marcus Hall scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting off the bench to lead the
Vikings (1-4), who have now lost four games in a row. Dre Winston netted
14 points. Portland State was outrebounded, 41-27.
Neither team was able to take control in the first half, which ended with
Loyola Marymount ahead, 30-29. Both teams knocked down 12 shots including
three from behind the arc. Hall scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting for the
Vikings before the break.
The Lions increased their lead and pulled away in the second half thanks to a
dominant effort on the glass. They finished the game with 13 offensive
rebounds and 15 second chance points.
Portland State still leads the all-time series, 3-2.
