Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Will Barton scored 28 points and pulled down
eight rebounds, as Memphis ran past East Carolina, 70-47, on Wednesday.
Joe Jackson tallied 13 points and seven assists for the Tigers (20-8, 10-3 C-
USA), who won for the fifth time in six games. Antonio Barton added 11 points
for Memphis, which forced East Carolina into 26 turnovers and had a season-
high-tying 15 steals.
Miguel Paul had 20 points and Shamarr Bowden 13 for the Pirates (12-14, 3-10),
who lost their fourth in a row. Robert Sampson had 10 boards, but East
Carolina ended 28.6 percent from the field and fell to 1-12 all-time against
Memphis.
The Tigers held a 37-32 lead at the half, then opened the second stanza with a
10-2 run. The double-digit margin remained the rest of the way.
Memphis, which held a 38-32 rebounding cushion, shot 56 percent in the first
half and limited East Carolina to 8-of-22 from the field in the same opening
20 minutes. The Pirates made just 6-of-27 shots in the second half.
Memphis held a dominant 48-12 scoring margin inside the paint and a 25-5
difference in fast-break points.
