Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - Kam Cerroni knocked down four free throws in the
final 10.5 seconds to lead the Green Bay Phoenix to a 53-48 win over the
Wright State Raiders in Horizon League action at the Wright State Nutter
Center.
Cerroni finished the night with seven points, despite shooting only 1-of-8
from the floor for the Phoenix (10-13, 6-7 HL) as they won for the third time
in the last four outings. Alec Brown, who recorded a staggering 11 blocked
shots in the first meeting of the season between the teams, registered a
double-double with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, followed by Keifer
Sykes with 13 points.
The Raiders (11-15, 6-8) were led by Johann Mpondo and Reggie Arceneaux with
12 points apiece as the squad dropped a third straight contest.
Wright State had just three field goals through the first 11 minutes of the
opening half, but a three-pointer by Arceneaux from the right wing tied the
game at 10-10 with eight minutes remaining. The Raiders eventually claimed a
24-23 lead at the half even as they shot only 2-of-7 behind the three-point
line in the frame.
For more than 39 minutes the teams remained within four points of each other
and it wasn't until Cerroni stepped to the line down the stretch that Green
Bay gave itself some breathing room.
In a game that experienced seven ties and 14 lead changes, WSU shot only 4-
of-15 behind the three-point line and 8-of-14 at the charity stripe, all while
turning the ball over 12 times.
The victory for the Phoenix was the first on the road this season in 12
opportunities.
