Jacksonville to host a preseason NBA game in October

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mayor Alvin Brown has announced that the New Orleans Pelicans will play the Washington Wizards in a preseason NBA game on October 8, 2014 at the Veterans Memorial Arena.

This is the second year in a row that Jacksonville will host a preseason NBA game. Last year, the Pelicans played the Orlando Magic at the arena.

The Pelicans feature former #1 overall pick Anthony Davis along with Austin Rivers, Tyreke Evans, and Jacksonville native Patric Young who recently signed a 2-year contract with the team after standing out during the Las Vegas Summer League.

The Wizards are predicted to be one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. Led by former Gator Bradley Beal and former #1 overall pick John Wall, the Wizards defeated the Bulls in the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs. In the conference semifinals, Washington was eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in 6 games.
