Decatur, IL (Sports Network) - Kristie Smith fired a 6-under 66 on Sunday to
win the Tate & Lyle Players Championship by three strokes.
Smith, who won for the second time on the Symetra Tour, finished at 13-under-
par 203 at Hickory Point Golf Club.
Leah Wigger and Therese Koelbaek shared the second-round lead with Smith, but
could not keep pace in the final round.
Wigger carded a 3-under 69 to end alone in second at 10-under 206, while
Koelbaek was three strokes further back at minus-7 after a final-round 72.
The 23-year-old Smith birdied the second and fifth to move to 9-under. After
three straight pars, the Australian birdied the ninth to move two clear of
Wigger heading to the back nine.
Smith caught fire down the stretch to pull away. She converted back-to-back
birdie chances on the 14th and 15th to push her lead to three. Smith closed
the tournament in style as she birdied the last.
Wigger also birdied the last to end three back.
Jamie Hullett (68) and Victoria Park (69) shared fourth place at minus-6.
